It's the ethnicity, stupid

I was pretty much indifferent to this story about the mugging in Pennsylvania. I mean, aside from fundamental human compassion for the woman I didn't think it had much to do with anything else important. Then it turned out to be completely fake--the black Obama-supporting mugger who carved up her face simply doesn't exist. And, in conjunction with McCain's Evil Franklin Raines/old white woman spot and the Giuliani "Obama's soft on crime" (i.e. he's a black dude who doesn't want to lock up brothers) spot, the deliberate attempts on behalf of the McCain campaign to push this story adds up to a definite strategy of race-baiting. And the Fox News VP agrees. McCain's a race-baiter. So, can we just kick this vile man's ass next Tuesday?

The Man, The Myth, The Bio

Problem: I have lots of opinions on politics and culture that I need to vent. If I do not do this I will wind up muttering to myself, and that's only like one or two steps away from being a hobo. Solution: I write two blogs. A political blog that has some evident sympathies (pro-Obama, mostly liberal though I dissent on some issues, like guns and trade) and a culture blog that does, well, cultural essays in a more long-form manner. My particular thing is taking overrated things (movies, mostly, but other things too) down a peg and putting underrated things up a peg. I'm sort of the court of last resort, and I tend to focus on more obscure cultural phenomena.
